It exhibits an herbal, celery-like scent. It contains phthalides and hydroxycinnamates, volatile fragrant compounds that can sensitize skin and work within skin’s layers to cause long-term damage. Beyond these volatile compounds, Levisticum officinale root extract has phenolic compounds which have antioxidant benefits. However, there are better skin care ingredients without fragrant compounds that flex antioxidant benefits without leading to skin sensitization.
